VGA
One of connectors that has bveen around for a long time is the Video Graphics Array connector, or VGA. This is a DB-15 connector.
The color is associated with the PC System Design Guide, and supports no audio. The signal is analogue so beyond 10 meters the signal tends to degrade
HDMI
High-definition Multimedia Interface connections provide audio and video streams, with fully digital signals. The cable runs have a limit of about 20 meters before losing signal.
They use a Type A connector (with 19-pins)
DisplayPort
DisplayPort sends digital information in pakcets, much like ethernet and PCI express, and is able to carry both video and audio.
It is passively compatible with both HDMI and DVI.
DVI
Digitual Visual Interface. The DVI family has many types, and can be divded into two major groups:
- Single Link; 3.7 Gbps (HDTat 60 FPS)
- Dual Link; 7.4 Gbps (HDTV at 85 FPS)
And three major families:
- DVI-A (DVI Analogue)
- DVI-D (DVI Digital)
- DVI-I (DVI Integrated)
DVI-A supports analogue signals, while DVI-D only support digital. Digital and analogue signal can be maintained using DVI-D
