A Volume Group or VG is a pool of storage created by combining one or more Physical Volumes. To manage storage, initialised disks must be part of a volume group (note that this is different from marking the disk as being allocatable, which indicates whether data can be stored).

CommandDescription

vgextendAdd additional PVs to a group
vgchangeChange availability status of a group (such as deactivating)
