MAYDAY vs PAN PAN

Both radio calls ensure that we have 100% of ATC’s attention.

  • DISTRESS - A condition of being threatened by serious and/or imminent danger that requires immediate assistance.
  • URGENCY - A condition concerning the safety of the aircraft or other vehicle, or of some person on board or within sight, but which does not require immediate assistance.

Whenever declaring an emergency include:

  • Number of souls on board
  • Fuel on board
  • Dangerous goods on board

Planned Emergencies

When completing a planned emergency (emergencies with sufficient time for set up), notify the cabin via “5 bells” or via the PA by calling “Flight Attendant to Interphone”. At the same time, select “EMRG” button on center panel.

Information for FA:

  1. Type of emergency (Land/Water, Normal/Abnormal/Emergency landing)
  2. Time available
  3. Signals (brace & evacuation)
  4. Who will advice passengers
  5. Special instructions (passenger relocation, other instructions)

Unplanned Emergencies

“5 bells” and the “EMRG” button during take-off or landing will lead to emergency and brace shouts from the FA.
